Thread: 9-speed hub gears
-
17th March 2006 #1
The problem with most hub gear designs is that the gears are too widely spaced, so i've come up with a 9-speed hub gear design which i want manufactured! I can then use it on my training/commuter bike. Here is the specification...1st 14/222nd 15/21 (12.2%)3rd 16/20 (12.0%)4th 17/19 (11.8%)5th 18/18 (11.8%)6th 19/17 (11.8%)7th 20/16 (11.8%)8th 21/15 (12.0%)9th 22/14 (12.2%)Note: The figures in brackets are the percentage increases in the gear ratios as you go up through the gearbox. At around 12% they are nice and close!Use a 56t chainwheel and a 22t rear sprocket to give a bottom gear ratio of 1.62 and a top gear ratio of 4.00 for training/commuting, or a 42t chainwheel and 22t rear sprocket to give a bottom gear ratio of 1.21 and a top gear ratio of 3.00 for touring.
