No review on the site. Anyone got/used one etc... or just a random opinion nothing to do with Dawes in general?

They're cheap, yes. But I would definitely recommend going up to the next price point of £500 - Any cheaper and there is going to be a lot of skimping in quality.

Depends what you intend to use it for . I had one which I used as a commuter and winter / general purpose bike for a couple of years . (I like to have one bike that I can feel relaxed about leaving locked up in town). I bought it 2nd hand pretty much new for £120 quid so didn't have to worry too much if it got nicked . I found it suited my needs but it was pretty heavy with fairly basic componetry . Like Adam says you'd be probably be better off ging to the £500 bracket but then again you'd be better off still spending £700 say . You get what you pay for . If I were you I'd set a budget of what you feel you can comfortably spend then have a look to see what's available at that particular price point . Very important IME is to try out a few different bikes to see what suits you best . Enjoy your testing and choosing .

Have to agree with the other guys, the £500-700 price range has some reslly good stuff in it, the frames in particular are better and can through time take upgrades. You don't saw what you will be using the bike for, some employers are starting to take up the cycle to work schemes, this means you can get good bikes for less. I have always thought that Dawes did best when the made tourers, I have a Galaxy and have had it for years now, it's heavy and good at what it does, never been that excited by their road bikes though.
