Richard Hallett wrote (see)However, correct technique when fitting the second bead of the cover is to start opposite the valve.Hi Richard- I've never tried it that way, so I'll have to give it a shot on my spare wheel when I've got some time. I think I took to doing it the other way because it gave me more room to manoeuvre the valve, but I'll have to try it your way- presumably all the stuff about partial inflation and 'tucking-in' still apply.BTW, has anyone else used Kenda 'thorn-proof' inners? They're weird things, aren't they? Has anyone had problems with the valve coming away from the inner tube? I had this several times- usually at bed-time after I'd fitted and inflated the inner hours before. The bike would just be sitting there and PFFFFF!- explosive decompression as they say. I assume I'd got a mis-alignment between the valve and hole that, because of the rigidity of the inner, was enough to actually tear it. Haven't had the problem since I stopped using them. (To be honest, thorn-proof inners in Marathon Plus outers was massive overkill and a waste of money- everybody's got to learn sometime!)

No one has mentioned checking your tyres for debris. A  flint will be hammered through the toughest tyres given enough time. Giving the wheels a spin and digging out any flints / glass helps keep you puncture free. Tha narrower the tyre the more crucial this is.

victims of a very successfull marketing campaign "Oh dear. Well-organized manufacturer with good product employs sound marketing to trick vulnerable consumers out of their money? I don't think so.FWIW, I use Schwalbe tyres and rate them highly; likewise Contis."
