    Riding Rapha Super Cross

I pinned on a number at Rapha Super Cross at Ally Pally on Sunday. Here's how I got on...

You're a brave man George, I've always been terrified of cyclo-cross and have so far managed to avoid participating. And unless they introduce a Veteran Plus Plus Plus category I guess I always will.

I rode last year's Ally Pally round and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I recouped my entry fee in tequila ;-)

Something I've always thought I should do, I'm a reasonable cross country runner as well as cyclist, have a cross bike and practice cross dismounts and mounts and shouldering the bike when riding off road - well I'm doing it really aren't I only on my own. Never say never.
It's not your destination that counts, it is the glory of the ride. (apologies to Edward Monkton)

Sounds like you're most of the way there already! You're based in west London aren't you? There's a cross race at Hillingdon on December 16 and I'll probably do that.

Indeed I am but a few minutes away from the Minet Park circuit - damn, now you've told me I won't have an excuse not to enter - hold on no, phew, I'm off snowboarding on the 14th, that was a lucky escape. The bad news is I've just discovered the ski resort I'm going to doesn't open until the 17th!

How about a spot of cross country skiing in the woods for the first couple of days? Perfect training

Its a good idea I have to say, but fortunately I'm staying in a mate's apartment in Megeve for free and hiring a car. Chamonix, Val Thorens and Flaine will all be open, snow permitting, and within an hour or so's drive so I'll be alright. Could always take the MTB though if all else fails.
