last year by the time I rode back from buck pal to my house...it was only 1pm

What about the area near Westerham? It's got some good climbs.

I've entered the ballot every year, not got in once. Has it been going 6 years now? I did do it for charity in the first two years, and loved it. The closed roads and people cheering you on are brilliant, as is the chance to ride a century fast.
In my experience of the event, it wasn't just the novices that were dangerous. There were some very fast trains coming through who acted like nobody else should be there, screaming at normal folk to get out of the way. I think some groups use whistles too. Bunch of knobs...

That's an oxymoron if there ever was one.
It doesn't matter how many times you fall down, its how times many you get back up that count.

It looks like I'll be raising money in order to take Boxxy's tarmacs.

I’ve done it 3 times (although only once successfully through the ballot system) and it’s fantastic.

Didn’t get in this year and doubt I’ll be taking a charity place for reasons I won’t go into.

But I’ve always wondered- with the number of riders massing at the start and the perceived lack of any checks- could you possibly even start at the actual start line in amongst all the crowds and chaos? I don’t remember any check of numbers etc?

I’m a bit gutted as I missed out on my 5 hour target last year by 3 or 4 mins and really wanted another crack this year.
