    Mallwyd,Gwynedd routes?

We have a week staying about 4 miles West of Mallwyd on the Gwynedd/Powys border in August.Anyone familiar with the area?
Obviously its Wales,Snowdonia is on the doorstep and I could plot routes myself but I'm after pointers for "must dos".
It's a family holiday so I won't be doing much more than 40-50 miles and I'll be looking to do shorter 20-30 miles with my son(10).
    Any pointers/tips appreciated

    Sorted.
    I've been pointed towards this:-
    http://www.welshcyclingevents.co.uk/big_dog.asp
I've split the "Big Dog" into 2 rides of around 50 miles each for me so I'll do the Top loop one day and the bottom another and the "fun" route at 31 miles along the Coast for my son and I
I can do my loops from the door and drive to the start of the Coast route. The wife and Daughter can have a couple of hours on the Beach with the dog whilst we ride

Might be a bit far off for you, but Llangollen has the Horseshoe Pass which I completed in the hill climb championship when Chris Boardman won it in 9 mins and I took 16 mins

There is a nice café at the top and good views.

I've done Horseshoe pass on both Road bike and Motorbike

There's a Pass on the ride I've got called Bwlch Y Groes-Hellfire Pass which looks pretty good.Second highest pass in Wales 13-25% but mostly 20%

I didn't get to ride Bwlch Y Groes-Hellfire Pass but I did drive it and it looks brutal.A couple of bends at the bottom then basically straight up!
Not as brutal as this little gem I discovered though.....

40%!!!!!!Narrow and winding but quite short.
My lad and I walked some of it and despite the "not suitable for Motors" warning towards the top there were houses with cars on the drive so they must have gotten there some how
