    9 speed HG50 cassette possible mod 11-30

Advice please folks. My bike originally had a 9 speed HG50 12-27 cassette. I replaced with a 12-25 when worn out - I struggle a bit on hilly areas and as it is showing signs of wear I see 11-30 seems to be showing up on a lot. My question is if I have a 11-30 can I ditch the 11 + 12 and replace with the 12(including lock ring) and 13 from my 12 -25 cassette? I rarely use the 12 on my current set up so would find an 11 a waste.
    Ratios are
    12-25 12 13 14 15 17 19 21 23 25
    11-30 11 12 14 16 18 20 23 26 30

You should be able to yes but did you also struggle with the 12-27?

    I don't see why not.

Do you have a compact 34/50 chainset?

Its worth a try but if it's worn it is the smallest sprockets that wear the most so you may be defeating the original object and even if that is OK then its possible you may find the tooth profile is not optimised so changes will be less smooth. Sounds like a good excuse to be dragged screaming and shouting into the 21st century and go 11 speed.

PS Presumably you are changing your chain before its too worn and that's not the cause of your worn cassettes? I've never had to change a cassette if I've renewed the chain before its 0.1% stretched (1 mm on a chain checker tool or one rivet using a 10 cm rule).
It doesn't matter how many times you fall down, its how times many you get back up that count.

Thanks for the replies. The 12-27 was fine on all but very steep and long ascents. Replacement availability seems to be the Ultegra version that is pricey. 11-30 can be picked up from on line retailers for 18.99.
It is a 34/50 Sora chain set
I have a new chain ready to fit, current is worn, but not to excess. I am quite happy TBH with 9 speed if I get a lower climbing gear. 30T seems reasonable especially noting the number of new bikes with 32T or 34T. I bought a Giant Fast Road Comax flat bar in the sales for a change that was a 11-34 fortunately Giant swapped it out for a 12-30 FOC. I don't need anything lower than 30T. BTW there's nothing fast about it - put some 32 tyres on and use it on road / canal paths - it is great for that....
