    Never worn a base layer.

If its really cold/wet I wear my castelli gore jacket, though its so nice I don't ever wear it in grotty cold salty conditions in case it gets dirty which rather defeats the object.

The point with base layers is that if you choose one with the correct technical properties it often means you don't need an outer layer over a jersey in cooler conditions unless its raining so it cuts down on the clothing you have to carry with you. Contrary to popular perception they don't cause you to overheat as they maintain a constant micro-climate that doesn't alter abruptly with temperature changes during a ride and
wick sweat which a lot of jerseys don't as they are not close fitting and/or not made of the right material. This summer when it was in the upper 20s & 30s for weeks at a time is the first time I can remember I've not worn a base layer and that was as much down to the super-technical and race fit properties of my Castelli jersey.
It doesn't matter how many times you fall down, its how times many you get back up that count.

I had my Crane Merino BL under my Proban workshirt last night.I was welding on to a 5-ton ingot heated to almost 500degrees.I had to put 6X24" runs on and it took about 20 mins. The back of my Proban shirt was soaked with sweat but the BL was only slightly damp. The ambient temp in the building was 3degrees.Had I not had the BL I would have had to change the wet Proban shirt on finishing or I would have quickly gotten cold.
Extreme example but that's how they work during exercise

Assos top? Is that company insanely pricey? Presume the LS Jersey is lived yeah?

One think I don’t like about my new BL is it’s not as long as the craft one.

Im gonna pick up one of yours Vlad to have a comparison to the Sportful one.

My mate spent nearly 300 on his BIB shorts from them, crazy money.
